At 5:36 p.m. March 27, 1964, the largest earthquake ever recorded in North America, a 9.2-magnitude on the Richter scale, shook south-central Alaska, sending buildings toppling in Anchorage. The earthquake would send a massive wave to the California/Oregon Coast. Of all the coastal towns impacted, Crescent City was hit the hardest and was changed forever. Since 1964 Crescent City had more than 30 tsunamis hit her coastlines.
